Driving in Lofoten is generally safe, but conditions change with the seasons.
Summer:
Summer driving is straightforward. Roads are clear, daylight is long and visibility is excellent during the midnight sun period. Most guests find it simple to explore beaches, hikes and villages at their own pace. Traffic is light outside peak weeks in July.
Winter:
Winter driving is safe when you have some experience with snow and icy conditions. Roads are maintained throughout the season, but weather can shift quickly. Rental cars come with proper winter tyres, which makes a big difference. We recommend taking your time, keeping good distance and adjusting speed to the conditions.
If you are not comfortable driving in winter, taxis and buses are available, but having your own car offers the most flexibility during your stay at Lyngvær Lodges.
