The vision behind

Founders
When the land in Lyngvær was acquired in 2021, there was no masterplan in place, no defined concept, and no clear idea of what the final development would become. According to developer Vebjørn Myhre, the decision to buy was driven by one factor alone.

“It was entirely about the location,” Myhre explains. “We had access to 23 extraordinary plots in one of the most untouched and visually striking areas in Lofoten. At that point, we didn’t know exactly what we would build, but we knew the landscape deserved something exceptional.”

The terrain itself played a decisive role early on. With varied elevation across the site, the team quickly saw the potential to ensure open views from every lodge - towards mountains, sea, and sky. That possibility became a guiding principle throughout the development process.

Experience from Urban Development

Although none of the partners had previously developed cabin projects of this scale, the group brought extensive experience from other parts of the real estate sector. Myhre’s partners had long backgrounds in residential and apartment developments, while Myhre himself came from years of working as a real estate agent in Oslo, specialising in high-end and exclusive properties.

“I’ve always been most interested in concept creation,” he says. “Starting with a blank canvas, defining a target audience, and then shaping layouts, materials, and architecture to support that vision. Lyngvær gave us the opportunity to do that, but in a market that, at the time, barely existed in Lofoten.”

Designing Against Convention

Rather than following the traditional cabin model commonly seen in the region, the ambition was to create something new: modern Nordic lodges with a level of comfort, spatial quality, and material standard not previously offered in Lofoten.

“The core idea was simple,” Myhre explains. “We wanted to design lodges where nature becomes part of the interior experience.”

High ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows were used throughout, allowing daylight, landscapes, and weather to flow into the living spaces. Whether from the bedrooms, kitchen, or living areas, the surroundings are always present.

The lodges were designed to work equally well for couples seeking privacy and tranquility, as well as for families and larger groups. Open-plan living and dining areas serve as natural gathering points, balancing generosity, comfort, and functionality.

Each lodge was delivered to a high standard as part of the base specification, including underfloor heating throughout, architectural lighting, stone countertops, large-format tiles, and carefully selected kitchens and bathrooms.

Establishing a New Benchmark

What began as a bold idea on untouched land has since evolved into a destination in its own right. Demand exceeded expectations early on, leading to the acquisition of 12 additional plots. Today, Lyngvær Lodges consists of 35 lodges in total and is regarded as one of the most sought-after lodge developments available for rent in Lofoten.

“We believed Lofoten deserved something more — something different,” Myhre says. “For me personally, this project represents everything I value in real estate development: creating something meaningful from nothing, shaping a market, and delivering a product that feels honest, thoughtful, and built to last.”

And, according to the developer, this is only the beginning.
