Flying to Lofoten

Lofoten feels remote, yet the journey north is simple and memorable. Flights pass islands, open sea and sharp peaks before you land among mountains and shifting light.

Starting point: Oslo Airport (OSL)

Most international guests arrive via Oslo. From here, several routes bring you to Lofoten. Choose the one that matches how you like to travel — direct and smooth, scenic and slow, or a mix of both.

Route 1: Oslo → Bodø → Svolvær (OSL > BOO > SVJ)

Svolvær Airport is the closest gateway to Lyngvær Lodges, located about 24 kilometres away. Daily connections from Oslo usually include a short stop in Bodø.

After landing in Svolvær, you can pick up a rental car at the airport. The drive to Lyngvær takes around 25 minutes along calm coastal roads, with sea views almost the entire way. A gentle introduction to Lofoten.

If you need supplies, Svolvær centre has groceries, a shopping centre and several restaurants.

Route 2: Oslo → Evenes (OSL > EVE)

Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes, is another well-used option, especially for international arrivals. The airport sits about 190 kilometres from Lyngvær, with a drive of roughly three hours. The route offers wide mountain views, fjords and long bridges — a classic Northern Norway landscape.

Evenes provides solid car-rental availability and frequent departures to and from Oslo.
Bus route 300 connects the airport with Svolvær several times a day and continues west toward Leknes and nearby villages. Updated times are listed at reisnordland.no.

Route 3: Oslo → Bodø → Leknes (OSL > BOO > LKN)

This route brings you into Leknes in the middle of Lofoten. The short domestic flight from Bodø offers striking views over the islands. From Leknes, the drive to Lyngvær Lodges takes about 40 minutes.

Choose this option if you plan to explore the southern part of Lofoten before settling in at the lodge.

Ferry and boat routes

Arriving by sea gives a slower rhythm and a strong sense of place. Several ferries and express-boat routes connect the mainland with Lofoten.

Bodø → Svolvær (express boat)
A passenger-only express boat runs between Bodø and Svolvær in around 3 hours 20 minutes. The route passes small islands and stretches of open water. Note that this service does not carry vehicles.

Bodø → Moskenes (car ferry)
The main car ferry from the mainland arrives in Moskenes after 3–4 hours. From there, the drive to Lyngvær takes about 2½ hours through some of the most dramatic parts of the islands.

Bognes → Lødingen (car ferry)
If you drive from Evenes or further north, this short crossing brings you into the eastern side of Lofoten. The onward drive to Lyngvær is around 1½ hours.

Which route to choose

If you want the fastest arrival, fly to Svolvær.
If you prefer long views and open roads, start from Evenes.
If you plan to explore the south first, choose Leknes.
If you enjoy travelling by sea, take one of the ferries from Bodø.

Each route offers its own pace and perspective. The transition from city to coastline, from sound to silence, is part of the experience. When you reach Lyngvær Lodges, the calm begins.
