When to travel

There is no wrong time to visit Lofoten.
Each season brings its own light, colour, and rhythm. At Lyngvær Lodges, you stay close to nature year-round — with quiet comfort inside and views that shift with the weather.
Winter
December – February
Days are short and calm. Light rests in soft blues and pinks, sometimes with a golden edge. The sea sends steam into the cold air, and clear nights open for northern lights.
A winter day might start with coffee by the window and a slow shoreline walk. Later, visit Svolvær for a sauna session or join a guided aurora outing. Evenings end in warm water at the lodge, watching the sky move.
This season attracts northern-lights guests and ski-touring visitors.
Facts
Daylight: 0–6 hours (Polar Night mid-Dec to early Jan)
Temperature: –3 to 2 °C
Precipitation: 90–110 mm/month
Typical activities: Northern-lights watching, photography, winter walks, sauna and jacuzzi, cafés and small museums in Svolvær and Henningsvær
Spring
March – May
Light returns quickly. Each week feels brighter than the one before. Snow lingers in the mountains while the valleys turn green. Days are crisp, with clear views and deep blue sea.
You might hike, fish, or visit nearby villages as the islands shift into spring. For ski-touring guests, this is prime season — long days, firm snow and quiet peaks. Evenings stretch toward midnight, often with warm light on the horizon.
Facts
Daylight: 10–18 hours by May (Midnight Sun begins late May)
Temperature: 2 to 8 °C
Precipitation: 60–80 mm/month
Typical activities: Ski touring, early hikes, bird watching, scenic drives, photography, evenings in the sauna or on the terrace
Summer
June – August
From late May to mid-July, the sun never sets. The landscape feels alive with colour, movement and long days outdoors. This is the busiest season in Lofoten.
Spend your day hiking, kayaking, or playing golf at Lofoten Links. Stop for a swim or a seafood lunch in Henningsvær. Return to your lodge late — the sun still above the sea. Blackout curtains ensure quiet sleep.

Daylight: 20–24 hours (Midnight Sun season)
Temperature: 10 to 18 °C
Precipitation: 60–80 mm/month
Typical activities: Hiking, kayaking, swimming, beach walks, golf, photography, midnight-sun viewing
Autumn
September – November
Autumn brings deep colours and soft light. Mountains shift to orange and red, the air cools, and the first northern lights return. Calm days alternate with weather fronts rolling through.
Start the morning with coffee as mist rises from the shoreline. Drive the coastal roads, stop in Henningsvær or visit Trevarefabrikken, or take a quiet walk by the water. Evenings are for warmth — sauna, simple meals, and wide-window views.

Daylight: 6–12 hours
Temperature: 3 to 10 °C
Precipitation: 90–120 mm/month
Typical activities: Scenic drives, shoreline walks, fishing, sauna and cold-plunge routines, northern-lights watching, photography
