Holandsmelen hike

Holandsmelen is one of the best easy hikes in Lofoten. The trail climbs gradually through open grass and heather before reaching a broad summit plateau with sweeping views of Vik Beach, Haukland Beach, and the surrounding peaks. This hike is perfect for families, casual hikers, and anyone wanting a calm outing with stunning views. Because it’s less steep than neighboring mountains, it’s also a great option if weather is shifting or if you want a lighter day. The scenery from the top feels expansive and serene.

    Good to know

Light hiking shoes, windproof layer, spikes in winter.

Ideal sunset spot — the sun drops over the sea.

Lofoten’s weather and conditions change quickly, and trails can be steep, wet, icy, or snow-covered depending on the season. Only choose hikes that match your experience level, check the weather forecast before starting, and turn back if conditions feel unsafe. Winter routes often require spikes or snow gear, and some hikes should only be done with an experienced guide. Always bring warm layers, proper footwear, food, water, and a charged phone.
