Vågakallen hike

Vågakallen is a mountain for experienced hikers seeking a real adventure. The trail is long, steep, and exposed in places, but the reward is a breathtaking view stretching across the entire archipelago. From the summit you’ll see endless layers of peaks, islands, and open ocean. This is a serious undertaking that requires good weather, stamina, and confidence in varied terrain. Because of its northern position and rugged slopes, winter ascents should only be done with a local guide. For capable hikers, this is one of Lofoten’s most memorable challenges.

  • Time required: 5–6 hours return
  • Difficulty: Hard (Not recommended without guide)
  • Elevation: 943 m
  • Distance: ~7–8 km return
  • Drive from Lyngvær: ~10 minutes trail start.
